You don't always have to go to a specialist shop to enjoy an elegant and original floor lamp at home.
You can actually make your own with a vase, a demijohn or a bottle , without having an advanced level of DIY. You will simply need to go through the following steps.

Choosing the vase and adding a base
You will need to start by finding at home or at Ikea the vase that will form the basis of the project. Make sure that its dimensions contribute to the ease of working with it and that it has sufficient stability to support the lights.
These dimensions will need to be based on your needs and the location planned for your DIY lighting and decoration device. Adding an additional base will be possible afterwards.
When choosing your vase, keep in mind that a standard lamp kit has:
- A height of 8.75''.
- A depth of 1.75''.
- A width of 5.75''.
It will be necessary to calculate and mark the center of the base . You will need to use either a tape measure or a ruler for this. Proceed in the same way with the vase.
This is something to consider with the stability of the vase and planning the electrical supply cord. Make sure the dimensions of the base are larger than the bottom of the vase.

Drilling and adapter application
Once you have decided on your vase choice and added a base, you can proceed to drill a hole in the bottom . Use an electric drill and a 3/8 bit to do this.
Drilling should be done from the outside to the inside. Get rid of excess material to avoid an unfortunate incident later.
The next step in the decorating tutorial is to apply the adapter to the vase. It will be more ideal to opt for the rubber adapter from the Westinghouse kit, but nothing prevents you from turning to other compatible adapters. This compatibility will depend in particular on the width of the adapter.

Inserting the lamp nipple into the adapter
Continue by inserting the lamp nipple into the adapter . Be sure to leave ¼” of the rubber adapter protruding. Place a locknut on the opposite end of the nipple before loosening it.
The nipple and adapter will then be inserted together so that there is a ¼” nipple portion protruding upwards. Slide the kit control ring and the bottom of the harp onto the nipple before placing the socket cap onto the nipple.
Tighten before sliding the wire through the sleeve into the socket cap . This wire will then be tied in a flat knot in the cap with two free ends.

Connecting the wire to the neutral conductor
The next step is to connect the wire to the neutral conductor . After finding the ribbed or raised part of the insulation, connect one end of the free end of the roped wire to the silver colored terminal life of one connected.
The other end will be connected to the brass-colored terminal screw. There will be partial holding of the wires attached partly under each screw head while tightening the two terminal screws. This will allow you to guarantee the clearance under the screw heads of the two ends of the conductive wires.

The final steps
To make your vase-to-lamp transformation work perfectly, you will still need to go through 3 very important customization tutorial deco steps. They include:
- When placing the brass shell on the lamp socket . This includes the need to pull the additional wire from the socket into the lamp before snapping the brass shell onto the socket cap.
- At the lamp harp attachment , which will match the shade above. You will only need to "pop" on the harp saddle its two teeth. The ideal dimensions of the harp are 10.5 "x 0.13" x 4.25 ".
- When attaching the bulb . Avoid over-tightening when turning it. To avoid blindness, the bulb should not be connected at this precise stage.
- Adding the shade . Typically you will receive the harp with a clip on top to fit a hole above the shades designated for it.
