Wall Sconce | ASTRO

A small colored disc set in front of a large transparent disc, surrounded by a ring of light: this LED wall sconce evokes an eclipse or a planet in orbit. Signed by Thoro, the Astro sconce measures 28 cm in diameter, comes in sixteen colors and exists in warm white 3000 K or neutral white 4000 K.

The large transparent plexiglass disc almost disappears on the wall. At first you notice only the colored steel disc, as if suspended in front of the wall with no support at all. The whole measures 28 cm in diameter by 8.5 cm in depth, a compact format that fits anywhere.

This designer wall sconce was born from a project by the designer Marta Foit, awarded as part of the Young Light program run with the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Its extremely light form suits a minimalist interior as well as more colorful decor.

When lit, the integrated LED source lights the edge of the disc and the wall all around. A light halo forms around the small disc, more intense at the edges, and gives the sconce all its depth. The 7.5 W LED delivers about 1070 lumens in 3000 K and nearly 1200 lumens in 4000 K, with a color rendering index of 90: the shades of the wall and of the small disc stay true.

Warm white 3000 K makes the halo more golden and suits living rooms and bedrooms. Neutral white 4000 K gives a sharper, brighter ring, suited to a hallway or an entryway. It is an ambient light, to be used in addition to general lighting. The sconce is rated IP20, for indoor use, in dry rooms.

White, beige and taupe offer the most discreet versions: the small disc merges with a light wall and it is the halo that becomes the decor. Black, mocha, brown and burgundy draw a very graphic dark dot at the center of the ring, for a striking eclipse effect.

Red, red ochre, yellow, pink and peach make this round wall sconce a cheerful touch in a hallway or a child's bedroom. Sage, olive green, azure blue and ultramarine form a calmer palette, which goes with wood, linen and green plants.

A wall sconce for the hallway, living room or bedroom

A single Astro sconce is enough to create an accent point above an armchair, next to a shelf or in an entryway. Several discs in different colors form a composition close to a planetary system: this hallway wall sconce lends itself well to play, especially if you vary the heights. Keep the same color temperature for all of them, so that the halos stay identical.

The electrical connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician. For maintenance, clean the transparent disc with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, with no alcohol or abrasive product, to avoid scratching or dulling the plexiglass.

With its colored disc, its 28 cm transparent disc and its ring of light, the Astro sconce by Thoro turns the wall into a small starry sky. Integrated LED, sixteen colors, two light temperatures: made in Poland, it can be installed in any dry room of the house, alone or in a composition.
