Ambient lighting is general, diffused background light that fills the room and increases the overall illumination of the room. Ambient light fills the room but may not be sufficient for specific activities such as reading in an armchair. Most ambient light is usually provided by living room fixtures.
The different types of lighting devices producing ambient light:
- The chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
- The lamps hanging from the ceiling.
- Wall lights on the sides of the room.
- Recessed or close-to-ceiling lights , above the head.
- Recessed lights in the ceiling.
- A living room ceiling fan with an attached "light kit".
