Bedside Lamp | AXO

This designer bedside lamp takes the shape of a conical base topped with a large flat disc, like a hat set at a slant. Designed by Thoro, the Axo bedside lamp looks like a small colorful mushroom, 28 cm tall, whose cover turns to let more or less light through.

A mushroom lamp with a pivoting cover

The upper disc pivots on the body of the lamp. By turning it, you open or close the slot through which the light escapes, which lets you go from a discreet glow to brighter lighting. This adjustment is made by hand, without electronics: the gesture is immediate and can be seen right away on the wall behind the lamp.

This mushroom lamp is a project by Patryk Magiera, developed with Thoro as part of the Jeune Lumière program. The shape remains simple, almost childlike, and that is what gives it its charm. At 28 cm tall and 20 cm in diameter, it fits on a nightstand, a corner of a desk or a shelf.

A G9 table lamp, bulb of your choice

Axo works with a G9 base LED bulb, with a maximum power of 8 W. The bulb is not included: it is up to you to choose the light color that suits you. For a table lamp of this size, a low-power bulb is more than enough; if it is too strong, it would make the cover adjustment less noticeable.

A warm tone brings out the colors of the housing and suits a bedroom. A more neutral light will be preferable at a workstation where you read a lot. The lamp plugs into an ordinary outlet and is turned on with a switch. It runs on 220-240 V and has an IP20 protection rating, for dry rooms.

A colorful bedside lamp in olive green, red or yellow

Three bold colors, with a matte finish, are available. Olive green is the most understated: it goes with wood, linen and walls in natural shades, without ever looking dull. Red embraces its status as a colorful object and works like punctuation on a dark console or a lacquered piece of furniture.

Yellow brings the brightest note and wakes up a shelf full of books or a side table that has stayed neutral. Brought together on the same piece of furniture, the three versions of this colorful bedside lamp make up a small, coherent family. The black cable is deliberately left visible and is part of the design.

An accent lamp for the bedroom, office or entryway

On a bedside table, the closed cover gives a very soft glow, handy for reading a few pages before sleep. On a desk, this accent lamp lights the work surface without taking up space: 20 cm in diameter is enough next to a computer. In an entryway or hallway, placed on a console, it serves as a welcoming light.

On a living room shelf, it complements the main lighting and creates a warm spot in the evening. On a reception counter or a restaurant table, its compact size leaves room for everyday objects. For maintenance, unplug the lamp, let the bulb cool, then wipe with a soft, dry cloth, without solvent. Handle the cover by its edge so as not to force the mechanism.
